The regional distribution center for Highland Superstores, a national electronics and appliance retailer, was severely damaged by heavy rains and hurricane-force winds. A 180-foot-long section of roof and wall collapsed, paralyzing the operation. It was critical that the 331,000-square-foot facility, the main hub in Highlands’ supply chain, be made fully operational as quickly as possible. The business interruption losses of the catastrophe were potentially significant. Highlands and its insurer acted immediately and hired Evans Team USA to coordinate the management of this catastrophe. Within 12 hours of the collapse, crews of 150 workers were on the scene to seal the gaping holes and dehumidify the warehouse. After 24 hours a crew of over 300 workers worked 24/7 to repair the facility. While several independent architects and engineers estimated it would take 10-12 months or longer to rebuild the warehouse, Evans Team USA, utilizing a proprietary system of project coordination that focuses on expediting recovery and mitigating damages, completed the difficult reconstruction 30 days to the day.
